Call for IS Arts- and Culture-based Artefact Submissions

Why IS Arts- and Culture-based Artefacts

Across disciplines, arts and culture are increasingly recognised as foundational to public value and sustainable futures, particularly through their capacity to encourage public engagement, foster critical imagination, and inspire creative expression. This focus is especially salient for Information Systems (IS) as a field situated at the centre of complex sociotechnical phenomena—often wicked in nature—where digital technologies permeate work, social, and personal life, shaping human experience at both macro and micro levels. These orientations are reflected in the ICIS 2026 conference theme “Digital Collaboration and Coexistence”.

We invite submissions for arts‑ and culture‑based artefacts that engage sociotechnical phenomena studied in IS. Such artefacts can help surface lived experience, ambiguity, affect, ethical tension, and future possibility, which also open up the space to capture wicked problems that are hard to be fully captured through the academic article genre alone.

Submissions should engage with the ICIS 2026 main conference theme “Digital Collaboration and Coexistence”, and address more specifically, but not limited to topics of:

  • Artificial intelligence, automation, and algorithmic decision‑making
  • Digital infrastructures, platforms, and governance arrangements
  • Datafication, surveillance, and accountability
  • Inequality, dependency, justice, and inclusion in digital systems
  • Sociotechnical crisis, polycrisis, and future imaginaries
  • Controversy and resistance, along sense‑making and meaning-making of digital technologies
